Air Quality Monitoring

The Port’s air monitoring network collects air and weather data at the Port on a real-time basis to provide timely and accurate information on air quality in the Port region.

Monitoring stations are strategically located in two areas at the Port: one in the Inner Harbor area, near West Long Beach, and a second in the Outer Harbor area, near the breakwater. Six different types of pollutants are measured, along with several types of weather data.

The system was developed under the Port’s Green Port Policy to improve air quality data collection and reporting. The information will also be used to better manage the Port’s air quality improvement efforts.

In early 2008, the air monitoring network was further enhanced with the addition of real-time air quality monitoring at Port of Los Angeles.  Data from all sites can be viewed on the two ports' Clean Air Action Plan website.
