Watch the webcast of the conference. The Gerald Desmond Bridge is a vital link in the nation's trade system and a major commuter corridor. But the bridge, built in the 1960s, was not designed to handle today's traffic volumes and is deteriorating.
A nearly $1 billion replacement project will ensure the safety of commuters and truck drivers and protect Southern California's important role as a major trading hub. Construction is expected to last five years and generate, on average, 4,000 jobs per year.

|  Se ha estimado que cuatro equipos de firmas de ingeniería y construcción reúnen los requisitos para competir por el contrato para diseñar y construir el reemplazo del puente Gerald Desmond en el puerto de Long Beach. El proyecto de $950 millones de dólares es una iniciativa conjunta del Departamento de Transporte de California (California Department of Transportation, CALTRANS) y el puerto de Long Beach, junto con el Departamento de Transporte de los Estados Unidos y la Autoridad de Transporte Metropolitana (Metropolitan Transportation Authority, METRO) del condado de Los Ángeles.
